THE STORY

Waiting is hard.

Whether it is for a day, a week, or longer, separation can leave children feeling disconnected, anxious, and alone.

But you can help them bridge the distance.

Sending You Butterfly Hugs is more than just a heartwarming story. Through gentle rhymes and comforting illustrations, this book teaches children a powerful, tangible coping skill to navigate their big emotions.

Readers are guided through the “Butterfly Hug”—a self-soothing technique that allows children to physically tap into their happiest memories and feel the warmth of their loved one’s connection, no matter the distance.

“Help the child in your life discover that they are never truly alone—because you are always right there, in their heart.”

THE METHOD & INSPIRATION

Bridging the Distance

Written by award-winning Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor Lisa Bond Parsons, this story acts as a bridge for children navigating the ache of separation—whether caused by military deployment, divorce, incarceration, or family transitions.

Grounded in Evidence

This book utilizes the “Butterfly Hug”—a form of bilateral stimulation often used in therapy to help the brain process emotions and strengthen positive neural networks. By combining the power of attachment with simple somatic movement, this story empowers children to self-soothe, transforming moments of loneliness into moments of deep, comforting connection.
