“It is an absolute human certainty that no one can know his own beauty or perceive a sense of his own worth until it has been reflected back to him in the mirror of another loving, caring human being.” – John Joseph Powell
I enter every counseling session with the mindset embodied in this quote. I once heard it said that every child who winds up doing well has had at least one stable relationship with a supportive adult. At the heart of what I do is a desire to be a caring, supportive person in my clients’ lives that allows them to develop resilience and recognize their own self-worth.
I graduated from Asbury Theological Seminary with a Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling. I have worked with children and families in foster care, women in recovery from substance abuse, and now at Parsons Counseling. My professional interests vary widely and my passions include working with those in recovery from substance abuse and military veterans and their families.
I have received training and supervision in Trauma-Focused Behavioral Therapy, Autism and Sensory training with Dr. Robert Jason Grant, Creative Interventions for Working with Traumatized Children training with Liana Lowenstein, Creative Interventions for Problems of Dysregulation and Play Therapy for Attachment Repair trainings with Paris Goodyear-Brown, multiple substance use disorder trainings, and have received training in use of the therapeutic playroom and theraplay-based activities through Parsons Counseling.
In my personal time, I enjoy spending with my family, including my husband and two daughters, my dogs, working outdoors, traveling, and mystery novels.
