how to get started

We are so excited that you have chosen Parsons Counseling for all of your mental health needs!  It is our goal to provide you with exceptional service.

what to bring

  • Completed Intake Packet
  • Photo ID
  • Insurance Card
  • Social Security Card
  • Proof of Guardianship for Minors
  • DCBS Case Plan, if applicable

What to Expect

Your first appointment is an introduction between you and your provider.  No therapy will take place during the intake.  It will consist of a tour, reviewing the Intake Packet, and gathering information to assist in developing a plan of treatment.

If a child is too young or not mature enough to sit in the lobby alone please bring another person to watch the client during this time.  This will allow the parent/guardian to speak about trauma and/or negative behaviors to the provider without the child present.

Miniatures
Miniatures Tell the client and the therapist a lot about family dynamics, relationship conflict, and who is close just by choosing a miniature for each family member and placing them on a table.
Story 1
The Client identifies herself as Kanga, baby brother as Roo, two sisters, and an aunt as three girls to the right of her, mother as the witch, and dad as the dragon. Notice the spacing of the parents. The client is probably the caretaker of the brother and the buffer between the parents and the three girl miniatures.
Story 2
The Client identifies herself as Kanga, baby brother as Roo, two sisters, and an aunt as three girls to the right of her, mother as the witch, and dad as the dragon. Notice the spacing of the parents. The client is probably the caretaker of the brother and the buffer between the parents and the three girl miniatures.

Puppets
Puppets are used in individual, family, and group sessions to engage client to create a story. Puppets are used to allow children to explore their issue and come up with their own solution. Children will project their feeling and thoughts into their stores. Children are able to feel Sade while expressing themselves. Parsons Counseling has several kinds of puppets from people to animals representing aggressive and calm characteristics. Children use the puppets of their choosing, come up with their story, and relate their story back to their current issue that they are struggling with, in most cases.
